In Laos, animal husbandry is mainly cattle and buffalo breeding, cattle are mostly used for meat processing, buffalo is mostly used for draught animals. However, with the development of agricultural mechanization, the number of water buffaloes is gradually decreasing, especially in the south of China. In addition, there are some other breeding industries, pig industry is more common in hilly areas, many families also raise some chickens or ducks. The main fishery species in Laos are carp, catfish, mullet, perch, loach, basil, crocodile, etc.
