(1) Rice diseases and insect pests. High temperature and high humidity area is a high incidence area of rice diseases and insect pests. Thailand is located in the tropics and mainly grows rice. Therefore, its rice diseases and insect pests are relatively serious. Rice diseases and insect pests in Thailand mainly include rice planthopper, borer, rice leafhopper, rice blast, bacterial leaf blight, bacterial leaf streak and grass dwarf virus disease. Among them, rice planthopper, such as brown planthopper and white backed planthopper, are the main diseases and insect pests. In addition, the common borers are Chilo suppressalis and Cnaphalocrocis medinalis; the rice leafhoppers are the green leafhopper and the electric light leafhopper.
The main control measures of rice diseases and insect pests in Thailand are as follows: first, cultivate and plant disease and insect resistant varieties, but the rice planthopper and other diseases and insect pests have strong adaptability to plant varieties. Bacterial angular leaf spot, cassava brown spot, cassava mosaic virus, Fusarium wilt leaf spot, Tetranychus cinnabarinus, grubs, Sawyer longicorn beetle, ground tiger, etc. Among them, cassava bacterial wilt is the most serious. Insect pests are also a major problem in the production of cassava in Thailand. Among them, mahasalakan Prefecture is an important cassava producing area in Thailand. However, it was damaged by mealybug and aphid in 2010 and 2011 respectively. More than 27000 (land measurement unit) cassava fields were affected in 2011.
(3) Diseases and insect pests of tropical fruits. Thailand is a major producer of tropical fruits in the world, especially longan, litchi and mango. Insect pests include bugs, aphids, mealybug, rubber insect, moth pests, mites, etc.; diseases include longan leaf spot, crown thin disease, algal spot, litchi (longan) anthracnose, fruit rot, litchi downy mildew, litchi anthracnose, mango powdery mildew, gray plaster disease, mangguo plaster disease, etc.
